Fender Leo Banjo Serial Numbers
0813
The serial number is 00146. I found a Fender price list from 1982 and it lists 3 Leo banjos; the Leo Bluegrass, the Leo Deluxe Bluegrass and.
- Fender Instruments Serial Number. While there have been periods of dramatic change—such as the transition periods between the Leo Fender years and the CBS.
- Listing is for a late 70's to early 80's Fender Leo Deluxe 5-string banjo, made in Japan. It's hard to date these banjos, but this one does appear to have a fairly early serial number on the label inside the pot, and no serial on.
Up for sale is a made in Japan Fender Leo Deluxe 5-string banjo from the very early 1980's. It's all original, in great shape, covered in beautiful inlay, and needs nothing to be a fantastic collection piece or player.
The tuners work smoothly, frets show almost no wear, and the truss rod turns easily. The chrome is very nice overall and worn on just one spot (pictured) and the finish has only minor scuffs consistent with an instrument that has been played. One of the resonator screws is stiff, but the threads are just fine and it is still able to be tightened by hand. Serial number 00360, this instrument comes with a heavy duty Canadian made case that is also in excellent condition.
The Leo Deluxe has been set up to Deering specs, which is 1/8' action at the 22nd fret and 1/64' relief at the 7th fret. It also comes with a nice quality 5th-string capo already installed, which eliminates the loads of potential hassle and expense associated with buying and installing one yourself.
Because I am neither a banjo player nor a drummer the head will likely need a tune, though I have done my best to even out the tension hooks. However, even in its current state it is an easy playing, great sounding, reliable instrument that anyone can appreciate, from gigging musicians to collectors to folks that just enjoy going to bluegrass festivals.
The banjo will ship strung and set up, but with the bridge removed and stored in the case unless otherwise requested.
