Camfrog is a video chat and instant messagingclient that was created by Camshare in October 2003.^[1] It allows people to meet others worldwide in video chat and find partners in chat rooms.^[2][3] Camfrog users with broadband internet connections can host and moderate their own video chat rooms.^[4] The Camfrog Server software allows users to host video chat rooms based on user interests. 1. Camfrog for Windows and Mac (the most recent Mac version 2.9.3277 now works with Mac OS 10.11 and up with very limited capabilities. The 'Extreme' and 'Gold' license types (see below) are not available for the Mac platform. Despite claims to the contrary, Camfrog seems to have abandoned the Mac platform. The last update for Mac OS was in 2014. The Windows version is updated and new capabilities and features are added.)

License types[edit]

• Free: Users who do not have a paid account will be restricted to using limited features of the site. Free users will be able to only view one video. The username will be displayed as black as opposed to green (Pro), purple (Extreme), or Gold (Extreme Plus).
• Pro: Users who purchase the Camfrog Pro account will be displayed as a Green nickname with unlimited of videos. They will be also be able to access all the features of the site, with the exception of multiple rooms simultaneously, changing their nickname, being able to view the top cams list, and sending/receiving VIP Messages.
• Extreme: The extreme feature allows the user's nickname to become Purple and have access to all the additional features of Pro & Free and also be able to join up to two rooms at the same times. Users are able to change their nickname once every three months. They will also be able to view the top cams list and able to send up to FIVE VIP messages to anyone who isn't on the Privacy Mode (circumventing the protection offered by Privacy mode, which blocks instant messages from any user who is not on a user's 'friends' list).
• Gold: The Gold is similar to Extreme but the nickname will be turned to GOLD. The Gold user is the highest level of functionality on Camfrog, and the user will be granted access to up to 5 rooms at the same time. They will also be able to send up to twenty-five VIP messages to anyone who is on the Privacy mode.

Camfrog client features[edit]

• Locate User: This feature allows the user to find friends, and also what room are they in. This feature can be disabled.
• File Sharing: Pro users can send files to each other via Camfrog Client.
• Snapshot: Snapshot are images, videos, or audio that can be sent from one user to another from their webcam.
• One on One Webcam: This allows the user to private webcam/audio to one other person without needing to be in the public chat room.
• Profile: Camfrog allows user to create their online profile for users who are age from 16 to older. Those users who are aged between 13–15 years old will not have their online profile.
• Video Chat Rooms: Camfrog client includes the ability to access Camfrog hosted and user hosted video chat rooms. Users have the ability to create their own room with different themes. User rooms have different rules than Camfrog hosted rooms, but must still follow the Camfrog's Terms of Service. Video Chat Rooms have various of listed such as All ages (13+), Deaf (Microphone is default disabled), Audio Only (Webcam is default disabled), and 18+ (Users who are aged under 18 will not see those listed and will not be able to access 18+ chat-rooms.^[8]
• Parental Control: Camfrog parental controls allow you to add feature restrictions to other Camfrog user accounts or block other user from using Camfrog completely. Parental control allows patents to modify permission such as Video viewing, Broadcast video, Audio listening, Broadcast audio, Text chat, and Instant messaging and one on one connections. It's also allowed for blocking new nickname registrations.
• Virtual Gift: Camfrog Gift is a virtual gift that can be sent to any Camfrog users. It also allows users to send a private message to any user on Camfrog, and even if their status is set on 'Privacy mode', they can still see the message.
• IM Catcher: This feature allows the software to catch all unwanted messages from unknown users that are not in the contact list of the user, without setting 'Privacy mode'.
• Operator Tool: This allows the room moderator to facilitate the chat room with many different commands.
• Games: Initializing the one and one connections, video chat and playing games such as Tic-Tac-Toe or Four-In-A-Row with friends.
• YouTube Party: This feature allows users to share YouTube videos in the chatroom.
• Stickers: Express the feeling of yourself in the chat room or instant message with various of themes.

Camfrog Server features[edit]

• General Settings: The hoster of chat room ability to control general settings such as Auto anti-scroll/anti-spam filter, automatically kicked users without webcams, not allow to bring any Camfrog Bots, Only set teen room (13–19 years old), disable microphone usage, chat commands, set topic by only owners, disabled hyperlinks to non-members of room, adjust the timer for microphone usage, adjust the timer to block the microphone, default ban time, set default expire punish time, and control of maximum allowed number of users. The hoster of room also can adjust the typical of audio modes.
• Room Access: The user of own room are able to control the chat-room password where limited to, set room to private with the password that can be trusted to give friends to access the chat-room. The hoster are ability to set /addowner password where the existing owners of a room can turn someone to become the new owner of the chatroom. Remote access is allowed to set the username and password where user can log in it from the web-based control panel.
• Message of the day (MOTD): MOTD is known as Room rules were set the messages to the room before enter the chat room.
• Operator list: The operator list is where allow grant to permit the users with various of role level. The operator list has three different types such as Friend, Operator, and Owner. The Friend is granted permission to send private messages in the chat room. Operator are able to punish or kicked user out the chat room if they are breaking the room rules. Owner level are able to kick, punished, banned, change user's operational level, and change the room settings via the commands.

• Pond: Pond is a personal type of room that is created for you and that stays online until you leave it. There are two types of ponds: private and public. Private ponds can be joined only by the people that you invited, and the public ponds are accessible for all of your mutual friends. There are settings to adjust the pond preference. The maximum number of users in a pond is 3 for the free version and 8 for Pro. When the user who created the pond leaves it, the pond closes automatically.

Camfrog Video Chat blends personal instant messaging, chat rooms, and video chat into one well-designed application. Very few free applications offer as many features as Camfrog, and you will find the community of users to be active and diverse, giving you an engaging experience.

Pros

Great performance: We visited many chat rooms and observed that video streamed quickly and without any significant lag or loss of quality. Chat rooms were constantly loading new messages, and we never experienced any crashes or freezing.

Camfrog Profile

Fast, attractive design: Camfrog Video Chat offers an attractive design and organized layout. Chat rooms are structured in groups, such as geographical area, and navigating between rooms and video streams only takes a few seconds.

Excellent tools: We found the Facebook integration and parental controls to be very effective, and the privacy features performed well. Camfrog offers many personalization options in the free version, while the paid version adds even more.

Cons

Large advertisements: During our tests, we were constantly distracted by the various banner ads included with this application. Although Camfrog gives you excellent text and video chat options, the advertisements detract greatly from your overall experience.

Bottom Line

Camfrog Video Chat exceeded our expectations in many ways, and we found it an excellent free program. It offers easy access to a large amount of chat rooms, usually hosting well over a few hundred users, as well as the private chat tools to be used with friends. If you're interested in video chat, this is an option worth checking out.
